Which do you prefer?" For this particular story I like close third.

Maybe I change my mind after reading the omniscient version but I think that then Jim's thoughts and actions must enter the tale much earlier. This would change the tale perhaps to much.

I like omniscient third, but it's much more difficult to write in an engaging way

yes - i dont like reading it sometimes as its seems so remote - i have the last one coming soon which is that perspective - i found the close third hard at first as i kept putting omniscient third in with it - which is fine to do but this was a challenging exercise for me so that was not what i wanted to do
